Directions to Camp Thunderbird
Camp thunderbird is located in the scenic Capital Forest atop the Black Hills on the beautiful shore of Summit Lake, only fifteen minutes west of Olympia.
From I-5 North/South
- Take Interstate 5 towards Olympia. (South from Tacoma/Seattle, North from Chehalis/Oregon)
- Take exit 104, US Highway 101 North towards Aberdeen/Port Angeles.
- After 5.9 miles Highway 101 becomes Washington Highway 8, take Highway 8 towards Montesano/Aberdeen DO NOT exit to Highway 101.
- After 4.6 miles (about 2 miles past the Union 76 station) turn right onto Summit Lake Rd NW (you will see a green "Summit Lake" sign.
- Follow Summit Lake Rd NW for 1.9 miles (stay left at the y-intersection) and you will see the Camp Thunderbird parking lot on your right and the Camp Akela parking lot on the left.
From West (Aberdeen)
- Take Highway Highway 8 East.
- Drive past McCleary to milepost 13
- Turn left onto Summit Lake Rd NW at the green "Summit Lake" sign.
- Follow Summit Lake Rd NW for 1.1 miles, keeping right at the y-intersection, and you will see the Camp Thunderbird parking lot on your left and the Camp Akela parking lot on the right.
